On War
I always found myself, via reading history and being a political junkie, on the side of Israel. I thought the Palestinian crisis was always over played, and that the Arabs suffered from plain antisemitism that was often whipped up by corrupt regimes, world powers, and dictators to steal oil from the region.
I then read more and more about the way Palestinians lived and while their own leaders, Arafat, were equally corrupt, I often felt if they spent less time making bombs and building schools, they would have carved out a decent life and realized their country. The worst human vice is blame, and when entire generation blames all their problems on others, while not just handling their own business, then society falls apart.
However Israel has never helped that situation and its become a spiteful worn out beast over the years. When thinking of America after the Iraq war and Israel in this decade, I can not help but remember how in War and Peace, Napoleons army was described as a wounded animal that would bleed to death.
Under the watch of Bush, when the fool entered the hen house, the foxes and weasels got their chance to stir up the farm.
I always felt though, that the suicide bombing was awful and I could not back a Hamas political party taking over the situation. Of course none of these things are my problem and I don't live there and rely on third party news sources, however we all have to have an opinion on something when writing about reality. However, since my home country plays politics in the region I think I can still comment.
But despite all this I still felt Israel should hold its own, and eventually broker the peace deal.
This all changes with Lebanon.
The all out war is no different than suicide bombing. Same as Iraq. We claim to be helping or defending ourselves, yet we commit the same atrocities on the innocents. The criminals, war lords and crooks remain armed and protected. The bombs fall not on them, but on families, the sick, elderly, young, the poor.
It reminds me of the western criminal justice system. It makes victims of serial killers, and rapists protected at the expense of the people they hurt for no good reason. We spend money, time and hours, trying to get appeals for the obviously guilty. Yet justice is swift for the pot smoker or poor guy who is barely tied to a crime.
Its ironic that repeat offenders are let out easily, but we make a point on people who may be rehabitable.
In essence, institutions and governments cringe at attacking the truly guilty, because the leaders of all governments are the same as the criminals. They can not bring themselves to hurt their own reflections.
Until the mirrors of society are broken, the bombs will fall, the people will wail, and the only nation in the middle east on the brink of Democracy will be torn apart. Its incredible that through pure govt action, the Lebanese kicked out the Syria influenced party, yet still allowed them some political representation. Is this not Democracy?
Ironic that in Ireland and the Middle East, where god is most reverred, and the people attend their religions, they do not practice any teachings.
The mess is unbearable, but history is full of this. Great civilizations rise and fall, only it happens a lot faster these days.

A lot was said there. I like the part about the role blame has played. As an existentialist, I've always looked down on those that are quick to point the finger at anyone but themselves.
The whole hypocrisy of religious nations is also a good point. I've noticed that very religious people are often the same way.
